FreightLift Lifting Chain Facts
Now that we are a little more familiar with chain terminology, let’s move next to understanding some of the more common, overarching features of all Freightlift VRC lifting chains:
- FreightLift uses commercially available, single strand, standard duty Roller Chain.
- The roller chain utilizes the more common Riveted construction over the more expensive Cottered construction.
- All lifting chains, as governed by ASME B20.1, must have an Inherent factor of safety of 6:1.
- The roller chain used is available in lengths/boxes of 10 feet, which requires a method to attach them end-to-end in the field.
- The chain sizes most common to FreightLift applications are sizes 80, 100, 120, 140 and 160.
- All standard duty roller chain requires regular lubrication as part of a good Preventive Maintenance plan, typically 2-3 times per year for normal duty applications.
